installing xp in vb

hi

I have vb installed in ubuntu 16.04 and a full retail copy of xp I just bought. It seems to load ok, but when I get to the end of eula and press f8 to install, I get kicked out of vb. Meaning I get returen to the home page. That am I doing wrong?
If your wondering why on earth I want xp, It has the drivers I need for my line6 ux2. As far as I know they are not available for linux.

installing xp in vb

try "sudo modprobe line6usb"

if it doesn't load the driver on Ubuntu 16*, then try 12*.

supposedly the driver is already (at least used to) be there by default.

keep us posted.

PS: if you must use win xp, make sure you don't NAT that sucker through to the net. In fact, I would disable the nic altogether since getting one thing like a ransomware worm could really ruin your day.

randyvh,

See if this any better.

Follow the first 20 steps here:

https://techandme.fsgo.se/install-vi...un-windows-xp/

As per biosboy4's warning, do be careful you don't get worms with XP!

I checked. no drivers and I'm not going on line with xp ever.

beachboy2

I checked out the web site. Thanks for that. I would never have found it. The problem is, I can't get past the eula. If I can't figure this out, I'll have to contact ms, which will probably be fruitless and at the end of the day, I will end up with a 50$ coaster and no drivers.

Microsoft killed off the registration servers for xp sp3
sp3 went end of life in 2014
sp2 went end of life in 2010 and
sp1 went eol on 2007

you will not be able to enter the code ( orange sticker from the OEM )

so installing will be a issue

AND
the install cd WILL!!!! need to "call home" during install so you will need to be connected to the net

-- but the servers and not there any more

It's been a long time since I installed XP and I may be completely off-base, but are you certain you are reading--er--scrolling the EULA all the way through?

Installing XP, depending on the disk, is not a problem, even validation can be done with certain disks but where would you get your driver from, unless you had a saved copy?
I have a scanner that copies slides but only works with an XP driver but it is no longer available from the manufactures website, ho hum.

It sounds as if your keyboard isn't sending F8, it's sending another sequence. Have you tried pressing your Fn Lock key before pressing F8?

I am always amazed at how much you folks know and how little I do. For instance, uhhhh what the heck is a fn key? I thought they just put that on the keyboard to fill up an empty space. Anyway, that was the problem. I now have xp in vb! To hydrurga and all the folks who took the time to help me, thanks
