[Solved] Installing X Windows in Slackware from the Internet
Hello Everyone,
I just installed Slackware on my Desktop and I booted it up to discover that X Windows hasn't been installed. During the installation process I was asked if I wanted to install it, and I chose to (along with KDE) but later it asked me to insert another cd, which I don't have. So I think it just skipped it. I've booted it up and now I am looking at a console. Coming from Ubuntu and Debian I was expecting some kind of package management tool like apt where I could just go ahead and install whatever I wanted. But the programs I have seem to only want to install from a CD. I looked on the CD for Xorg and KDE packages but from what I can see they aren't there. Is there an internet based package management tool like apt? Otherwise, how can I install X? |
OK I think I'm getting somewhere, I've downloaded xorg slackbuild from here and the source and i'm about to run the script.

Just download the necessary precompiled packages using wget from your local friendly Slackware mirror:
ftp://ftp.mirrorservice.org/sites/ft....1/slackware/x Then install using installpkg. |
Ok I followed the instructions and it seemed to work but now when I run "startx" I get:
Code:
Fatal server error: could not open default font 'fixed' |
Googling "slackware default font fixed" gave me this thread which seems to be for the same error:

Thank you very much!!!!:D
KDE is up and running. |
Glad it worked :)
