Smile Installing Windows as 2nd OS

This is probably a very common problem for linux people.
I'd like to install windows 2000 server as a second os and have Ubunt linux as first. When i install windows it complains that install failed cant find ntldr.

Thx

What doesn't it recognize? Can't it find any FAT32 partition or something when does it give that error.

BTW I recommend having a rescue/liveCD or linux boot floppy around cause windows will overwrite the MBR.

i had a good little look on the ms website and it would appear that windows has plenty of options to migrate you Unix based system to a windows based system at the point of instillation. which aint much use for you. The error your getting should read "ntldr is missing" if id does you can get instrutions on how to write that onto a boot disk http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;318728 provided you have access to a win 2000 system to get the files. It appears to be written for perople who already have the os already installed however if you boot it you may be able to run the installation cd with that .

Also when i installed Mandrake it gave the option to install a boot programme as ms assume you will use nothing exept there own os's they do no give this option.

In short if all else fails backup your hd and wipe it install windows on a smaller partition or you other hd if you have one and re install your linux distro which should allow you to install a boot programme hey presto one working system i hop

after all im a linux newbie
