installing windows 7 on a laptop running cinnamon

Hi all
I have cinnamon installed on my laptop as the only OS at the moment but need to use windows for OU work, have set up windows7 in virtual box but its very slow and keeps freezing so wondered if it would be better to dual boot, all info on this though seems to be about installing linux on a windows system, is it possible to install windows on a system running linux or do I need to install windows first and then linux, all suggestions gratefully accepted

Hi, and welcome to LQ! You can do that, but then you will have to reinstall the boot loader back to the master boot record, as Windows will replace it with its own. You probably have Grub2 as a boot loader, so you might want to use the Super Grub2 Disk in order to repair it after the Windows installation. You can also chroot into your Linux system from any live media that can boot to a shell (I like System Rescue CD very much, but I also use Slackware's installation discs for such tasks): this way you can reinstall Grub2 to the MBR from inside your existing Linux system.
