Installing VMWare Workstation 8 on CentOS 6.2
Hi,
New to this whole mess. (Juuust kidding). The way things are installed on Linux is sooo different than on W7!. I have installed CentOS 6.2 on my lapdog, went through the headache of installing Adobe Flash for my browser (what an eye-opener!). Now I am struggling with VMW 8. I downloaded a "bundle" file. I have looked through the posts and went to the Downloads folder, su - (ed) to root (then went back to the Downloads folder), chmod(ed) the file to +x, then did the ./vmware ... bundle file thing as adviced on one of the previous posts. The command line just returns!. I went to the Applications > System Tools > System Monitor but nothing really jumps out as "running" any VMWare related software ... Any tips or help would be appreciated. Sam |

Quick update: I chmod(ed) /VMware-Workstation-Full-8.0.2-591240.x86_64.bundle~ (note the " ~ ") to 777 and did the ./VMware ... bundle~ and that seems to have worked. Strange thing is that I had two files with the same name with the exception that one of them had a " ~ " at the end, the first one (without) did not work, the second one with "~" worked. Go figure. Now I have two 300 Meg files in my Downloads directory. Any ideas as to why I would have two identical files the difference being that one of them had an additional "~" ? ... Sam |
