Installing updates from DVD with YUM
Hey guys.... I've just installed Fedora Core 5 on one of my machines and I'm trying to install a heap of rpm updates and errata fixes from a DVD via YUM(which should be the easiest way).
This is the path containing all the rpm updates once the dvd is inserted. Code:
/media/fedora-c5-errata 200610031232/fedora/linux/core/updates/5/i368 Code:
[updates] It's not working and I'm out of ideas. Please help if you can. |
Ummm.. shouldn't it be 'i386' rather than 'i368' ??

I've been searching and searching. I can't work out how to do this. I think I'll just download the 600mb if I can't get this working. EDIT: I'm currently working my way through the man page for yum.conf. If I can't work it out from there, I'm a lost cause. |
I think for any dvd to act as a repository, the rpm files on dvd have to be in a folder called "RPMS"

The DVD is actually setup to be a repo. I just need yum to point to it.
I'm going to try setting up a local repo. |
Using the DVD to install packages from FC5 at this point is not the best of ideas. The reason being, FC5 is 6 or so months old, so once you get all the packages installed, yum is just going to update them through the web. Say you install firefox version 1.5.0-4 from the DVD, but when yum does its next update, it will see that 1.5.0-7 is out. So after doing the work to install the older version from the DVD, you are just going to download the newest version in any case.

You make a good point. Nevertheless, I just did a regular YUM update and it was done in a couple of hours.
