installing Ubuntu on slave with XP on master

HI, yes I'm a newbie for the moment. I'm not new to computers but I am getting tired of MS BS and have friends who love Linux stuff so I'm going to learn what the fuss is about. I have a new DELL Inspiron 531. I have Ubuntu burned to DVD and have partitioned my new terabyte slave drive with 3 primary volumes of 160 gigs and an extended volume of 456 gigs. I am wanting to put Ubuntu on a volume of the slave to explore it. I have the XP factory restore disks, drivers and utilities and have all backed up on an external WD hard drive. I have read some but now I need some answers. Do I need to install grub or liLo or is this program on the Unbuntu I downloaded from the official Ubuntu site? Is there a good place to find a clear install procedure for this situation? I've done some looking but no exact match yet. It seems like this would be a common situation for people who are exploring Linux for the first time.

Grub installation is the final process of Ubuntu installation and it should be done automatically for you.

Not really required but you may have a look at this before you attempt anything.

Good luck and welcome to the Linux world.

When you are going to install UBUNTU you get a few options :
One option to let UBUNBTU use to whole HD with not you're option.
Second to let UBUNTU use a partition on the disk , I assume that that is what you like to do mostly this option is find under customize ore expert option.
After this come the next screen one of the option on this screen is called ADVANCE .
If you do not use this option than GRUB is installed on MBR of SDA
With this option you can make the choice where to install GRUB
If you like to dual boot installing GRUB in MBR is the easy way BTW this is the standard option.
But you also can install GRUB on the boot sector of UBUNTU and use bootini
from windows to boot windows and UBUNTU.
I have never done this before
