installing Ubuntu 8.04

Hi, simple question.

Im about to install Ubuntu 8.04, because 9.04 DOES NOT SUPPORT Ati Radeon video cards 9600. (I have tried everything, it doesnt work)

what is the best method in terms of size to format/ partition the hard drive.

I have one 1TB drive to run the system, and its mainly used simply to download and watch movies on TV.

Any other advice on the best tricks to installing 8.04 OS would be greatly appreciated.

I highly recommend making a relatively small system partition, a swap partition of course, and a large data partition. This is because when the Ubuntu installer "formats" the system partition it will check for bad blocks. If you use a large partition then the bad block check could take hours or even up to a day.

During the installation don't tell the Ubuntu installer about the data partition. You can do that after the system is running. Just make a 12 GB partition for / and a 1 GB partition for swap. That's all the Ubuntu installer needs to know.
