installing ubuntu 11.4
hi all ,
im trying to install ubuntu 11.4 onto an xp laptop with 3 partitions, c, d, e and i would like the 11.4 on the d partition but i get to the point where it says the partitioning thing but cant figure how to place it in the (d) , could you advise me please and thanks in advance. |
It's usually best to install to unallocated space, leaving Ubuntu (or any other distro) to create and format partitions. So, if you've nothing important on d and e, delete them.

how do i remove the d and e partitions without loosing the space they take on the hd, d is 50gig and e is 24gig, and c with xp on is about 40gig, could you recommend a free software to change this spec...thanks again. |
Sorry, but I don't understand that. If you remove the D:-partition and install Linux on it you will not loose any space. How should space get lost?
Anyways, to remove that partition you can use the partition manager that comes with Linux, you will find it in your control panel. |
You don't seem to be familiar with Linux drive/partition naming conventions so I would suggest you google that to get the information. In the Allocate Drive Space window, you will not see any C or D label. If you don't understand the naming conventions you are likely to mess everything up.
