installing ubuntu 11.10
 

I've been trying to install ubuntu 11.10 but for some reason it doesn't work. I tried wubi for both 32 and 64 bit and it didn't work. It installs with no problem but when I boot it just gives me a black screen. I can hardly see the logo but it doesn't go beyond that point. I tried using one of the terminals but couldn't see anything either. I tried a full installation on a separate partition with both versions and same problem. Ubuntu 10.04 works perfectly.
My specs are:
acer aspire 5736z
intel pentium 64 bit
intel graphics card
4GB of DDR3

Any help would be appreciated

try your luck with Linux Mint that is similar and don't use Unity.

Or you can install 10.04 and upgrade release.

Could be something to do with your graphic card. But thats just an assumption and it will remain that way till you give more information on that. Can you try and boot into single user mode CLI mode with X disabled?

My guess would also be the graphics card but I'm not sure. I can't log-in at all since I can't see anything. The reason I want to use it is because unity but I guess I will have to wait till the nest release maybe that one works.

Have you tried a live-cd to see if the graphics work, especially since you were able to install?
Maybe you can also do repairs to the system from there.

You could login in CLI single user mode by editing grub options temporarily while booting. This would not make the changes permanent but could at least give an insight if your installation is borked or just some drivers creating issues. If you can login using single user cli mode, you could check the log files to see what are the issues.
