Installing Ubuntu 10.10 on a Windows 7 System (Dual booting) with Radeon X300/X550/X1
 

Ubuntu Linux, just like most Linux distributions, will happily co-exist on a hard disk with just about any version of Windows. This is a concept known as dual-booting. Essentially, when you power up your PC you will be presented with a menu which provides the option to boot either Ubuntu Linux or Windows. Obviously you can only run one operating system at a time, but it is worth noting that the files on the Windows partition of your disk drive will be available to you from Ubuntu Linux regardless of whether your windows partition was formatted using NTFS.

To day I have installed Latest Windows 7 and Latest Ubuntu 10.10 on my office system (Dual booting). This two operating system which I installed in HP dx 7200 micro towers.

Hard Disk

SAMSUNG HD 321HJ of 500 GB.

First I completely formatted the hard disk

Second I made three partitions in hard disk (C, D & E)

In partition C I installed windows 7 (First windows should be installed in newly formatted hard disk)

And in partition E I installed Ubuntu 10.10

After Installation you will see a box in booting time in that you have to choose which operating system you have to run.

Booting box looks like this

In this way I have successfully installed windows7 and Ubuntu 10.10 on HP system in my office. Do the same thing and enjoy.

Sometimes I have up to 5 operating systems running simultanously on my box. Have a look at Virtualbox.

You forgot your Ubuntu specs on the Operating System: line.

Not original poster. Linux newbie here 4os'es:
Debian(sda1 or hd0,1),Winxp(sda2 or hd0,2), Ubuntu10.10 Desktop(sdb1 or hd1,1), Ubuntu10.10 Server(sdb6 or hd1,6), I can only run 1 at a time. I got my grub under control.

Ok Tobi I think it's time to move to the next step checkout virtualization.
