installing suse linux 9.2 first time


hi
i am facing a problem in installing linux 9.2 first time having Mac OS 10 with 996 MHz and 256 of RAM 80GB HDD with 10 GB in C:/. When i install Linux, the display on the Monitor is not visible like waves or whatever.
Please tell me what is the possible reason for this and how to fix.
i have changed the resolution but problem still exists.

Most likely you,re graphic card or Monitor
Start suse in the failsafe mode
login as root
Start yast>hardware>graphic card and monitor.
It will probe you,re graphic card and monitor again
If the settings are ok save it
And than startx see what happens

Also, SuSE 9.2 to fairly old and may have trouble with modern hardware. You may want to consider trying a newer version of SuSE.

why suse 9.2 that would be like installing mac osX puma today

try with somthing like 10.3 or 11.0 and most likley it will just work

i will try a newer version of Linux which would resolve my problem.

i recomend either opensuse 11
www.opensuse.org
or ubuntu 8.4
www.ubuntu.com

both are very user frendly and quite intuitive to set up

ubuntu prehaps more so if you need to use wifi
