Installing SuSE 9.0 from CD hangs

When I try to install SuSE 9.0 from the CD, it hangs at the point after it says "Evaluating Package Selection" once it got past that and I went to change the package selection (I wanted the minimal one) and then it hung again.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening?

Maybe, if that was the case it'd be nice if I could figure out what exactly is damaged, I've tried both CD 1 and 2 and the same problem happens.

If they are original (purchased from SuSE / your local store) disks, try to get a new set.

If you burnt them, check with md5sum, whether the copy is faultless (md5sum on original CD vs. md5sum on copied CD).

Google "Evaluating Package Selection hangs SUSE 9.0" and you will find a plethora of threads etc on this subject. it seems to be a relatively common problem, not media related...

Hey, don't be so fussy with SuSE 9.x!
It' is great distro, I'm having no troubles with the installation itself.

Yes, I used self-made boot CD burnt from the boot.iso image, and then I mirrored the whole SuSE 9.0 tree on my disk localy, but that does not matter... or I'm wrong?!

What I mean is probably there's media bug in those CDs bought from INet... If more and more peoples have one and the same trouble with the boot CDs, then it is more likely to be a problem in the CDs and not in the distro.

I personally do not pay any single penny for a Linux distro - I've mighty broadband DSL connection, stable ISP, wery well working DVD-Burner (and yes! It works perfect under my SuSE 9.0!), so I just mirror locally the distro I want and then burn it on one or two DVDs, burn a boot CD from the boot.iso image and here we go!

Kind regards,
sbogus
