I just downloaded a trial of staroffice 8 and the file's got a .sh extension.
I downloaded the getting started guide as well, but the instructions aren't working -- talking about becoming su then running some GUI enable, then going to the directory with the staroffice download and typing ./setup to install it.
.sh is a shell script, right?
how do you execute it?
I'm new to linux and used to running .rpm or .bin files for installs.

thanks
What is not working??? Please post exactly what happens---what error and at what step?
Also, you might want to consider using the free version: OpenOffice.org. Same SW--StarOffice just has added features--eg templates
