Arrow installing soorce rpm


i want to insatll rpm. i hav downloaded binary and source rpm packages. binary rpm package has been installed successfully but source package is not getting installed. it is giving error that *.src.rpm extension cannot be installed

Well, post full error message with what command(s) you have tried so far.

And it's version

rpm's are used by RedHat and that family of operating systems
RHEL 4,& 5,& 6
CentOS 5,& 6
Fedora 17 and 18

and a bit of an "odd ball"
SUSE Enterprise Linux 11
OpenSUSE 12.2 & 12.3

... and why would you want to 'install' the .src.rpm ?

src rpms only contain source code, so unless you plan on making modifications to this program and re-compiling it, src rpms are of no use to you. They do have their place, but they are very rarely required.

It's like the old "elitist" saying goes:
"How much does it cost?"
"If you have to ask, you can't afford it"

The same can be said for src rpms. If you don't already know how to use them, then you don't need them.
