Installing SNORT

I am trying to install SNORT on Fedora. I downloaded a user guide to install it, followed all of the steps, as far as I can tell, but when I went to test it, I got an error that said:
ERROR: /etc/snort/snort.conf(53) Missing argument to SMTP_SERVERS.

What is going on here? I saw nothing in the user guide that mentions anything about this.

Well, have you checked line 53 in /etc/snort/snort.conf? Or done a Google search for "snort.conf"?

Is it in the package manager like here in Debian, or an RPM (somewhere?)
https://www.snort.org/snort-downloads/#beta
Code:
cd Downloads
rpm -i snort*.rpm

SMTP_SERVERS, like any other `grep "^var [A-Z]" /etc/snort/snort.conf` variables, should be set up manually as Snort has no ide where the sensor will be set up. Often you'll run it on an end point so the variable will be set to $HOME_NET (except EXTERNAL_NET, which obviously should be !$HOME_NET).

With a stock snort.conf the comments in the configuration file are quite descriptive.

Just `grep "var.SMTP_SERVERS" /etc/snort/snort.conf`.
