Uh, the correct way to unmount a CD-ROM is
umount /mnt/cdrom (or where ever it was mounted)
Or, right click the CD Icon on the Desktop and choose Eject .
In Linux a CD-ROM once mounted must be given the umount command before it will eject with the little button on the CD Drive
To use a paper clip to brute force unmount a mounted CD is asking for trouble.
PS: A hammer would unmount it too, but do you want to use it?
