Installing Red Hat 9 on Serial ATA Raid 0
 

I have a Asus A7n8X mobo with Silicon Image Raid 0 array set up. I downloaded the drivers and built the driver disk for red hat install, by the way i have a FX5600 so I have to run install in text mode. Anyway, the install appears to run beautifully, but when I reboot the computer it can't find the root partition and I get a kernel panic obivously, I'm sure windows would panic if it couldn't find the C drive. Anyway please help, I've tried appending the kernel with multiple statments( root = sda2, etc.) but nothing seems to work. All the docs seems to say it should go straight in without a hitch.

One of the docs say I should run a redhat_9.0_update_loaders file, however I can't run this file until I have booted off the drives, I have tried Crt-Alt-F2 to run it during install but it just makes the changes to the installs ram drive, which is no help.

What am I doing wrong? How do I make this work?

driver are not even supported by Windows for SATA Raid

with that board all you have is optin Raid 0 or Raid 1

it uses the Silicon Image Raid chipset no linux drivers are avaiable yet, but keep checking there site

I've gotten Drivers for it for both Windows and Linux. I currently have windows installed on one partition of the array running raid 0. Linux will see the array and access it properly during the install but upon first boot i get the kernel panic that it can't find root. I believe I need to append something to the kernel to tell it where root is, or I am installing the drivers incorrectly.

The drivers I am using are from www.asus.com.tw website for download. I then used rawrite to create the disk for linux. Like I said earlier this part of the proccess works because the installer sees the drivers and sees the array as one drive
