Installing PyPedal

Hello,

I'm trying to install PyPedal but was overwhelmed by the steps. Here is a link to the program:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pypedal/

The first problem is, on this page http://pypedal.sourceforge.net/manual/node18.html , the package is described as .tar.gz, however when I try to download, the package is a .egg

I searched online since I never dealt with a .egg, some suggest to use the unzip command others have used the command without success.

The second problem is, I have to install Python which I have no experience with. This the Python page http://www.python.org/download/ all the Linux files seem to be source tarball. What would be the best way to install a source as I have never done this before?

The third problem is, which of the third-party extensions used by PyPedal listed in this link I could skip installing http://pypedal.sourceforge.net/manual/node15.html . All I interested in is getting the numerical result that this program produces.

Assume that I have download the PyPedal and Python files to the /home directory.

Your help will be much appreciated,
Mike

'unzip PyPedal-2.0.0-py2.6.egg' will work.

But the package to use is PyPedal-2.0.0.tar.gz
( Same link : Please click 'Wiev all files'.)
http://mesh.dl.sourceforge.net/proje...l-2.0.0.tar.gz
'cd PyPedal-2.0.0/ && python setup.py build' , etc.

The prerequisites : Assuming you still have CentOS 5.5 :
.... Then it is something like this ...
# yum install \
python-devel python-setuptools numpy python-matplotlib pydot python-imaging-devel \
graphviz-devel graphviz-python python-networkx pyparsing python-reportlab
( Building all those from source : At least 40 packages are required.)

.... But please tell, what you are using.
The OS to be used must be specified by every question :

http://linuxsilo.net/docs/smart-questions_en.html

..

I'm using CentOS and I also have Fedora 14 installed. Whichever will make the process easier I will use.

PyPedal : Python 2.7 is not supported. Fedora 14 is excluded.
( The system Python cannot be changed.)

Seems to work on CentOS 5.5. (I never used PyPedal, cant't tell how it should work.)

No package python-networkx is available, CentOS.
( python-networkx is optional and can be installed manually.)
'Python psyco' is required : Also manual install.

Some of the other mentioned requirements are from EPEL
