ok i tried to install softwares, partimage and vlc in ubuntu 7.10 after unzipping it and then i did ./ configure and then make and make install ofcourse after entering into that file thru cd. but then it is giving me error msg, something like access is denied. so i thought i must have to be root to perform that but in ubuntu their is no option of being root so know what. i tried su -m and then typed my user account password and it said authentication failed......... plz help me..............
don expect to change something overnight. although first of all i am really thankful for effort but yet i have to say that.... i am a great supporter of linux and open source, but just don praise something just to praise. every thing has its ups and downs and ofcourse linux is no diff, and if people (specially supporting linux) don thing so then i am sorry linux will be doomed....

hey thanx for ur buddy could u also teach me how to make files executable in linux
i know some chmod +x<filename> thing but if i do (as i tryin to learn perl in ubuntu) some programming in command line (as shown in some online tutorials ) how should i make that executable.... when should i use that chmod thing before or after writting code or when the hell.
