Installing Perl 5.8 without Kpackage

Okay, I'm trying to install Perl 5.8 and Kpackage isn't exactly working with me. I need to know how to install it without Kpackage. I'm running Slackware 10.0 with KDE 3.2. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Code:
wget http://slackware.mirrors.tds.net/pub...8.4-i486-3.tgz
installpkg perl-5.8.4-i486-3.tgz
Is one way.
