Installing Opera 9.27 on Fedora8

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help me with this?

Trying to Instal Opera 9.27 but it doesn't seem to be installing properly. This is on Fedora 8. The instal package seems to run, but it doesn't seem to have installed the software properly? What it likely to be the problem here?

If the opera command does not run opera, check if opera exists and if it's in the path.

No it isn't. What makes me curious is that it came from the Opera Website. Just wondering if it could be possible that there is something wrong on my end or with the package itself.

In this case I just clicked on the package (It came as an RPM package).

It seemed to execute, the icon came up, but it seemed to instal too quickly, and it didn't run when I clicked on the icon.

try to install from the command line, so you see if errors are displayed.
rpm -ivh opera.rpm

[root@unknown005004180ce2 Desktop]# rpm -ivh opera-9.27-20080331.6-shared-qt.i386-en.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]

[root@unknown005004180ce2 Desktop]#

(By the way I appreciate you taking the time to help out)

Please post the output of:
rpm -qlp opera-9.27-20080331.6-shared-qt.i386-en.rpm
This will tell us what this package is supposed to contain.

What is the output of "ls -l /usr/bin/opera"?
Did you try to launch Opera from the command line with /usr/bin/opera?

[root@unknown005004180ce2 Desktop]# ls -l /usr/bin/opera
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6888 2008-04-01 01:07 /usr/bin/opera

Do I have to unpack the RPM file first before I do that, or does that mean that the file is empty? Sorry I really only have nominal experience using terminal.

No I didn't try to installing that way.

As I see it, it looks like Opera is correctly installed.
Just type 'opera' on the command line. Opera should appear.
If it doesn't work, type '/usr/bin/opera' and this time it should work.
If it doesn't, post the output here.

This means it is missing dependencies, you need to install libqt-mt. I would advise installing it through yum so you don't have complete dependency hell
