installing NVU

i have been searching the forums and the net for last couple hours on troubleshooting installation NVU on ubuntu. i've downloaded the program and unzip it to my desktop.
i've tried using the sudo command with errors such as 'user not in the sudoers file'
i've tried using the add/remove and synatic programs, password prompts, entered and nothing happens.
i'm a total newbie to linux but i'm tech savie and IT professional. any light on the situation would be greatly appreciated. i've read as much tutorials on the os but i'm probably thick-headed .

Gut reaction is that you are dealing with folder (directory) permission issues.

First, enable root if its not already there and then su to take on root privilges. This is less ambiguous than sudo. Obviously, root takes the same care as would admin in Windows.

next, tell us more specific error messages and with what command

You already know how to read the rwxrwxrwx permission string for a file or directory?

yeah i do and i am thankful for your reply.

i have now put that project aside and started the integration of FCKeditor.
Again, i've search and read all as much websites and can't figure how to get this WYSIWYG editor to integrate with mozilla.
anyone has a dummy explanation to have this done?
