Installing mysql using wget.

Hi Im running FC5 with no GUI, and im trying to install mysql 5.0 with the wget command. I have the link: http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/M....rpm/from/pick

Im wondering how I do this is it just as simple as putting wget infront of the link to get it off the net then just do a simple install?

thanks.

wget is used to get (download) the files/directories off the net. You then have to install it using the native tools (rpm in your case).

essentially, just give file url to wget.

wget remote_url/file

For more,
Code:
man wget

firstly, that's a rhel4 rpm, not an fc5 rpm, it probably won't install. secondly, why?
Code:
yum install mysql-server
job done.

that link only goes to a "pick your mirror" list this is the first mirror (UK)
http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/M...www.mysql.com/
so try
Code:
wget http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/MySQL-5.0/MySQL-server-community-5.0.37-0.rhel4.i386.rpm/from/http://mirrors.dedipower.com/www.mysql.com/
wget has loads of options but for simple downloading you need none.
links and lynx are text based browsers that could help you out with this sort of thing in the future

Putting wget in front of the link won't work. Have you got Lynx installed? It's a console web browser. Just type lynx to run it.

to the best of my knowledge every single install of fedora will include yum...

and that's still a rhel4 rpm... if you are sure you need to manually download them, download the file yourself from the yum repos.
