Installing MPICH2

Hey guys, I am trying to install mpich2 with the following flags:
--enable-fast=O2

--enable-mpe

--enable-threads=runtime

--enable-checkpointing

--with-mpe

--with-blcr

I keep keeping this error when trying to configure it:
checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out
checking whether the C compiler works... configure: error: in `/export/software/src/mpid/ch3':
configure: error: cannot run C compiled programs.
If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'.
See `config.log' for more details.
configure: error: src/mpid/ch3 configure failed

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I really need to get this installed!
Thanks in advance

Which Linux OS are you using ? ? Like CentOS 6, Debian 6 etc.

Did you install a complete gcc compiler with your 'Package Manager' ?
I.e. the c++ part of gcc will take care that all the gcc dependencies
will get installed. Gcc alone can do almost nothing.

Please, show us the relevant lines in config.log, to see if they provide some more details.

I am using Centos 5 !
Then please install the package 'gcc-c++'
.. which will also intall these for dependency :
glibc-devel glibc-common glibc-headers ....
Without those packages, gcc cannot "run C compiled programs".
