Question installing mouse cursors

I want to look at and then install some more noticable mouse cursers. I have downloaded a package of orange comix mouse cursers and they show in a folder but I have no idea of how to look at them and choose the one I want to install. I am a brand new newbie running Linux Mint 16. I'm 71 and am trying to switch from Windows but everything in Linux is still very very new to me, although I like what I have seen so far. Thanks for your help.

Mouse cursors used to come with the Desktop Environment like Gnome ,KDE etcetera. I think it was possible to add them manually but it would be difficult. I would look into mouse themes for Desktop Environments.

In this context it is the graphical interface that you interact with. There are many different ones that come with linux mint. If you go http://linuxmint.com you should be able to see there is "Cinnamon", "MATE" and "KDE". Each of these will have a slightly different way of changing things like the mouse pointer. Do you know which one you are using?

Note that generally you should not be manually downloading software or themes etc using your web browser. Instead you should use the configuration tools and package manager ("Software center" or similar) provided by Mint.
