installing motherboard drivers
 

hey, i have red hat fedora core 9 and i just got a new pc. I have the driver disc for my mother board and graphics card but i don't know how to install them because i'm unfamiliar with the linux file system. I am sadly becoming aware that its not like windows where .exe is the executable and all you gotta do is click it to start an easy process of installation.

currently i am unable to connect to the internet. I am guessing because my mother board needs its drivers. the mother board disc came complete with linux drivers as well, just need to know how to install them.

i imagine i have given insufficient data to receive a desirable response. Please ask any questions you might have and i will get the answers to you.

If this is really a new PC as in fresh outta the shop (or something like that) then you should get a more up to date distro RH9 is old school. On the subject of the drivers... mobo drivers come with the linux kernel (the heart and mind of it all) and you dont have to install any specific files (as in windows).

Get your hands on FC4 -that is Fedora Core 4-. Is the closest to RH9 youll get and it has superb support (as in user forums and whatnot).

To make a long story short - no. you don't need to install any "drivers" from your CD but rather install a newer linux distribution (for example fedora core 4 as our colleague mebrelith suggests)
