Unhappy installing mandriva linux

i have an assembled laptop with 40GB of harddisk prepartioned into 24.4Gb for windows xp professional. the rest is intended for linux(as yet unused). the processor is centrino, 1.5Ghz with 256 mb ram.Note that file system is FAT32. Its also equipped with a dvd read& cd-write/read combo drive. I have all the three iso images for mandriva linux on a dvd. I want to install it on to my laptop. Please tell me in detail how to go about

dunno bout mandriva but for other distro's i've installed its pretty simple!

firstly, go into your bios and make sure your booting off CD-ROM before your HDD.
then basically just work your way through the instllation!
when you get to the section about where to install/partition/formatting of drives, MAKE SURE you install linux on your spare space-not on top of windows!

i'm not sure what bootloader mandriva uses but you'll probably need to configure that after the install!

But what i think you should honestly do is BACK UP your windows partition, then have some fun and mess around the Linux install! if all goes wrong you'll have leant what not to do to install linux, and you'll only have to re-install Windows! you'll learn a lot more from your mistakes than you will from someone tellin you how to do everything!

Just give it a go and have a laugh!

You need to create a seperate CD from each iso image or a DVD from the DVD iso image. You will not be able to install mandriva from a DVD containing the iso image files (as far as I know).

An iso image is an image of an actual CD (or DVD). You need to copy each iso from the DVD, and burn each of them to a CD. And burn them as an "image", NOT AS A FILE. Then insert the first CD, and see if it will boot from that.

use nero or nero express find the option to burn a cdimage its in the menus. then use the dialog box to find and select the iso image files. if you dont see your images then set the drop down menu to .iso instead of .nrg post back let me know how it goes.

Try to run "xorgconfig" so you can configure the X server for use with your graphics card and stuff.

Also, you're logged into Linux when you enter commands, it's just that you don't have an X server running.
