installing mandrake 9.2: monitor goes to sleep on login prompt

When I try installing mandrake 9.2 (or 9.1 for that matter)
the install seems to work ok untl I get to the login prompt.

About a second after I see "login:" appear my screen (A dell 1800FP LCD monitor) goes into sleep mode.

I am using a nvidia geforce TI4400. My PC is a Dell 8250.
I tried installing othe sistributions.
Slackware is the only one I got working, butdoesn't support my sb audigy card.

Any help would be appreciated

thx
Jo

Are you able to "wake" it up after sleep mode or does the monitor remain black. If it is able to wake back up then check your BIOS settings and see if maybe you can change the amount of idle time to something longer. I doubt this is the case since it doesn't occur with slackware but does with Mandrake. Also try going to www.mandrakelinux.com and check the hardware compatiblility list. See if it is listed and if so wether it is fully supported or partially. If not supported you will have to search for the drivers online.

Good luck,
javpra

driver issue

The problem is apparently the nvidia card.
I found a driver on nvidia.com, but installing it is proving to be a challenge.

Apparently the install package requires some kernel header files, and mandrake forgot to put the source for them on their cd-iso's.

Anybody who can talk me through this?

thx
Jo
