installing mandrake
 

ok well im trying to install mandrake and it keeps saying that it cant acces my CD-ROM drive. i dont really get how i cant access it since it booted from the CD butanyway anyone have some suggestions?

Hi, i'm a newbie too. Is your cd-rom a LG maybe? Take a look at the mandrake website, 'cos some LG units have problem whit that distro, but there is a list of links where you cand find new firmware for them and resolve the problem.

heh.. Slackware is the greatest Linux Distro (distrobution) in my mind. However, it does require some experience so play with mandrake first. As for your cd problemo, I have no clue...

You could stick another cdrom in there and try. Or you can try on another comptuer (dont install, just see what "should" happen)

lol thanx. yeah i think im just gonna slap one of my old CD drives in there. i checked the site it says my smsung CD drive is supported but who knows. ill post back here and let yall know if the new drive works.

hmm well the new drive worked. lol another problem though. i come to a part were it asks if i have any disk/scsi devices. yeah im lost here.

wow im confused. i can see now why linux isnt very popular.... its hard as hell to install.

I think you probly use IDE.. but yes, you know why it is hell of hard? because it doesn't automaticlly F*ck up your computer. If you do use computers a lot and interested in how it works, Linux is definetly for you! If you want control over your system, security, and a reliable source (the community) developing your software, choose linux!

man mandrake linux comes with the easiest possible installation process, all u need is some basic computer knowledge + u should know what hardware you have inside your box. So why dont u open it up and take a look inside, if thats a bit difiicult for u then open the manual which came along with your PC.

and as for your ans to harddisk/SCCI devices press yes :>

Can you access the drive?
if yes copy the setup image on a floppy and then reboot your computer. make sure your floppy is the first dive at boot. you'll be taken into the MDK setup menu.
I don't rememeber exactly each step 'cause i went to slack some time ago. Ayway it should work fine.
