installing linux redhat 7.0

When I try to install redhat 7.0 on my computer, A Compaq, from the CD. It runs through the startup things. then comes to the line.
running /sbin/loader

at this point it stops responding. the curser just flashes.
Can anyone tell me what the problem could be?

My email address is.

does your compaq have a non dos partition on the beginning of the hard drive?

While you may want to keep it, it may be causing the problem.

I have had it running on a compaq with a diagnostic partition, but I have also seen them cause a problem.

If you have a clean hard drive you can put in to try, then you could possibly install it the but the original drive back in the primary master and setup linux to boot from the slave

I don't know what you mean by hardware config.
I have a Compaq presario. it is a 750 duron. 256 ram, 30 gig HD,
The video is onboard I believe and is a Nvidia Vanta. PS2 mouse,
standard Compaq keyboard.
Don't know what else .

I tried loading Linux after I formated using Dos 6.22, I've tried loading it after formating under windows 98 and windows me.

It just stops after it says running install..... running /sbin/loader

that is where it stops. everytime.

if you run fdisk and look at the first drive,

when you display partitions, does it have more than one partition? And is one of them showing up as non-dos partition?

found out that it is my compaq computers usb ports.
linux doesn't like them..
I had to start the program by typing linux nousb
that seemed to work..
I even went out and bought mandrake 8.1
It did the same thing...
but I have it installed now.

Thank you All
for your imput.
