Question installing Linux on old Dell desktop

I have been given an old P3 Dell desktop 20GB HDD 128MB RAM, currently has Win 98 installed which I want to turn into a Linux box, have Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD and install CD

1) I cannot even get to the BIOS to boot from CD. There is no 'press F1 to enter BIOS' line at the start or anything. Does anyone know how to get into Dell BIOS? Version 201al560 or something like that..

2) Is Ubuntu 6.06 too late a distro? Is there another distro that will work better on an old PC?

Please reply to johned@aibi.ph

I have Fedora Core 6 installed on a Pentium III based Dell Latitude laptop. It uses "F2" to enter the bios, but I need to hit the button right away.

The P-III is o.k., but 128 Meg is a bit "light on" for something like Ubuntu (or Fedora I would have thought). Should be plenty of disk space.
Try Xubuntu (uses a lighter desktop) - and yes 606 is *way* too old. Try to get the 704 (Feisty) version.

Edit: try F12 at boot to get a boot selection menu.

I'm sure Debian would run fine on that, Xubuntu should work
