i seriously doubt its the size of the hard drive thats messing you up, but if you think so, make an 80gig partition and try to install on that. I bet its an issue with the actual hardware though....

Hi,
i am bit confused with your post.As Xandros is a new OS.As per me Redhat reqiuers for minimal installation few mb less 800 mb for maximium or full installation it requiers atleast 15gb even for the services & for RND.& try to install Redhat after the another installation of OS & give the sapecific path for the partition on which the another OS is installed.Hope it work's.bye c u

Welcome to LQ!

Can you post more details, so we can help you.

* Is the 300G drive PATA or SATA?
* Exactly what versions of your chosen distributions are you trying to install? Make sure you get the most recent version possible.
* What is the error message displayed?

There should be no problem installing Linux to a 300GB drive. I have a 300GB drive in my machine, all as one partition, and there are no problems. I am not sure what the upper limits are, but I do know they are bigger than 300GB.

I hope this helps

In that case, get a newer distro. Redhat 9 is very old, and Redhat ceased support for it in mid 2004. The direct successor to Redhat 9 is Fedora Core 5 - I suggest that you get this.

FC5 has better hardware support, more and better applications, easier to use, better package management, etc.

As for the harddrive, by IDE I take it you mean you connect a parallel cable to it. Just being pedantic, but IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics, so both types of hardrive are IDE. PATA is the new term for what used to be called IDE, and SATA is SATA.
