Installing Linux Mint full on Android tablet
 

Hi, I'm new here but not new to the computer world. I'm old and have been using computers since before the DOS days. I currently use a Windows 7 PC for all my work but have recently installed Linux Mint 17 on a separate machine. I will need to come here often for help.

At the moment my interest is in changing my Acer A500 Iconia tablet into a linux device if that is possible. I have read that it uses an ARM chip and Linux Mint won't install on it. I would like to know what other choices I have.

Welcome to Linux! The DOS days? Umm, 6.11? That was the last one I used...I even tried on OS/2...for size...I loved it but, was not yet "clever" enough to fully grasp the concept. I was looking for a pre-emptive multi tasking OS at the time...Linux...was not even there yet :)

Umm, I have doubts on installing Linux on an Android device...I have an Archos ***dows tablet computer (not a tablet as we know today) and it has a classical HD in there. Boots of a stick...from there...the road is open...for some of the distros...not all...there are inherent limits...
You may need to get a non-PAE distro...Mepis has one...Debian based...I use it on an old PC, runs like a train...
can I sit by to see where this goes?

Debian has ARMHF and ARMEL versions available. But putting it on a tablet isn't easy, if even possible, because of the hardware setup. I'm not aware of any successful attempts at putting any Linux distro on a standard Android tablet, but maybe I've missed something.
