installing linux from downloaded iso file

Hi i downloaded iso file of linux from ftp://192.26.91.193/Linux/packages/y...D_20081119.iso ... I burnt the iso file to dvd using nero-7 express.. And made my pc's first boot device to dvd..

But i could not boot from dvd.. My laptop is dell inspiron-1525.. how do i solve this problem?

I am new to linux... And want to install it.

that .iso is for power pc architecture, your computer is probably x86 if it's a dell.
also, I don't know nero at all, but make sure you burn the disk image, don't just make a data CD with the .iso file on the disk. I'm not sure what you would have to click in nero to do that though as I've never used it.

Check the BIOS sequence at startup depending on your manufacturer you need to press a key at startup

It could be f2 f10 Ctrl +alt ESC, check that first

then check for something called like "Boot Sequence" and put the dvdrom/Rw as first at boot then check if boot again

Well it would be better to go for a Linux version that could work on your computer, it would be better to go for something more mainstream and up-to-date. and it would be better not to cross-post.

How about starting again with something like an Ubuntu (Ubuntu itself, or Kubuntu, Xubuntu, for example, or just take any one and add the alternative GUIs with the package manager), Mint or Mepis? I'm sure that you'd be happier. Or, if those wouldn't work for you, maybe you would tell us what you think is 'bad' about them, so we could find another option.
