Hello,
do I have to unzip the "linuxmint-17-cinnamon-32bit-v2.iso" file before trying to boot the file from an USB stick? Thanks

No, if you do that it will be useless to you. You either use software that you have to "burn it as an image" to a DVD or use software such as unetbootin or universal usb installer to create a bootable flash drive. Google either and you should get the correct site for unetbootin or universal usb installer.

Use a program like NERO and select the option " Burn image to disk" That will automatically "unzip" the file and make the DVD bootable

And if you'd rather use the USB stick, here's Unetbootin

U can use Rufus USB. Very intuitive and simple.
