installing libpng problem

when installing mplayer, i need to have available. to do this i downloaded libpng-1.0.14-0.7x.3 and installed it (i believe i did this correctly, as no error msgs showed up).

now i can't install mplayer b/c it says i still need, even though libpng-1.0.14-0.7x.3 is supposed to have installed

what gives?

Every time I have touched libpng I have found their version numbers to be messed up. Yes, libpng-1.0.14-0.7x.3 is supposed to have installed However the fact that libpng version numbers do not work as advertised is nothing new. Try creating the symbolic link yourself and see if that works.
