Question Installing Kernel 2.6.1


I had installed new kernel 2.6.1! processing was simple
make menuconfig
make bzmimage
make modules
make modules_install

The problim is that i can't mount vfat and ntfs partitions!(vfat is not supported bu the kernel). when i was configuring i include thi file systems! at new kernel! Xserver don't want start. What can it be&?
Please help

Is support for these formats configured as a module or does it depend on something configured as a module? Did you install module-init-tools when you went from a 2.4 to 2.6 kernel? http://linuxfromscratch.org/pipermai...er/002290.html

Yes i had installed it! i has ASP Linux 9.0. i install one from distibutive!

You know 2.6.1 is kind of outdated, 2.6.2 is in use now.

For X, if you have an nvidia card, get the latest drivers and install them to work under the 2.6.x kernels.

As for the filesystems, recheck your config file, can you modprobe it?

The problem was that In ASP linux u need to edit your Script
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit


this line you need do it
if ! LC_ALL=C grep -iq nomodules /proc/cmdline 2>/dev/null ; then
