Installing Kernel

Hi,

I downloaded the latest kernel, 2.6.4 today, a total of 40'sh mb,
and extracted it to /usr/src

however, first thing to do is run 'make menuconfig'. failed to work.
infact, i ran a search through the directories and sub directories and found
no file called menuconfig.

have i downloaded the wrong version?

can someone give me the exact link to the correct version for i386 please.

Thanks

you just extracted the linux-2.6.4.tar.bz2
after that you do
ln -s linux-2.6.4 linux
than cd linux
than make menuconfig
