ok after updating the sources i did and got this-

now also there was only one update for new sources and i did that it was gnomebittirrent than i did what i shown it says i have to do i have to install "libgtk1.2" and than if so after that it says to register java with mozilla on this web page http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/manua...all_linux.html but i dont understand it the code i pasted doesnt show where it installed and im not real sure if i just copy and paste it or add files this is due to stupidity about linux file system i think.

i just installed libgtk1.2 and libgtk1.2 common just incase i still getting the java plugins bar on top of screen

i logged out of ubuntu session and came back ran install again and its fixed thank you for your help.

Download and run the .zip. I'm sure that (amongst other things) it installs java. Even if i'm wrong, it installs lots of other useful stuff like w32codecs and acrobat reader e.t.c.

ok not sure about that mrbass it says it adds repos for hoary im running breezy. ok i had to redo java and here is what im getting (same download and all)

as for the ubuntuguide.org is no longer a website and i did what the java site said and what everyone here said.

Has no one noticed that this guy is trying to install an .rpm on a .deb based system?

Dude, you can't use the .rpm (easily anyway) get rid of it, delete it, bin it.

Opening it in Kate is out of the question - you are trying to open a binary file with a text editor - think of it as trying to put a Video in a DVD player - it just don't fit.

What you need to do is CHANGE YOUR REPOSITORIES as mentioned on http://www.ubuntuguide.org

Once you've done that, go to the command line, and do:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-j2re1.5
java -version
And it works.

ubuntuguide.org is no longer a site they shut it down to update it to breezy and as for the repos i have all of them and in the synaptic they had a few java runtimes i found this am and installed all of them so it works again for time being.
