go to the red hat, go to your system tools menu and select Terminal.
from the terminal log in as root (use the su command)
choose where you want it installed to (it can be wherever you downloaded the file to as well). I wanted mine in /usr/java so I made a directory:
and then threw it in there
mv j2sdk-1_4_2-nb-3_5_1-bin-linux.bin /usr/java/
and then went there
either way, simply run the file, by typing it's name:
This launches a script that makes you agree to a license (instructions are on screen). Agree and then it installs and that's that.
If you want more detailed help, let me know. No need to install Netscape 7.1 since RH9 comes with Mozilla which is nicer anyway.
