Question Installing Java to Linux (What a pain)

I wish I could find simple instructions, in plain english, that would explain step by step, how to install this j2sdk-1_4_2-nb-3_5_1-bin-linux.bin . I managed to install Redhat 9 and am clueless as to how to install and configure software for it. I've been playing with it and managed to install netscape 7.1 but that's about it. Many of the sites I've come across explain the process of installing Java in programming terms which really confuse me. I need help and by that I mean real help. Start me from the click of the freaking red hat if you don't mind. Anyone?

sure thing. the instructions are actually given in detail at java.com at

http://www.java.com/en/download/help...elf-extracting

but....

go to the red hat, go to your system tools menu and select Terminal.

from the terminal log in as root (use the su command)

choose where you want it installed to (it can be wherever you downloaded the file to as well). I wanted mine in /usr/java so I made a directory:

mkdir /usr/java

and then threw it in there

mv j2sdk-1_4_2-nb-3_5_1-bin-linux.bin /usr/java/

and then went there

cd /usr/java/

either way, simply run the file, by typing it's name:

j2sdk-1_4_2-nb-3_5_1-bin-linux.bin

This launches a script that makes you agree to a license (instructions are on screen). Agree and then it installs and that's that.

If you want more detailed help, let me know. No need to install Netscape 7.1 since RH9 comes with Mozilla which is nicer anyway.
