Installing Java and Netbeans Bundle

Hi there, after nearly a year away i decided to give Linux another shot, and i must admit i've been pleasantly suprised with fedora core 4.

However i'm having a bit of a problem installing the java and netbeans bundle from the sun website. Following the installation instructions i get the message:

The installer is unable to run in graphical mode. Try running the installer with the -console or -silent flag.

On the sun website it says not to run either of those commands, instead alter the DISPLAY variable, to which i get the following message:

[Kieran@Kieran Applications]$ setenv DISPLAY Kieran:0.0
bash: setenv: command not found

Things were going so well aswell! Does anybody have any ideas what i should do next?

Thank you!

what is sentev?
to run the installer you need to
chmod +x <installer_file> <- make it executable
./<installer_file> <- this should start the installer

the error message is because it thinks you are running a cmd. are you including the "." and the "/" before the filename? are in you that directory when you try to run the installer?

cd /home/you/<where the installer is>
chmod a+x <installer_file>
./<installer_file>

Should launch it.

I had the same problem and ended up installing java and netbeans seperatley. The funny thing is that on Mandriva and Suse it works fine, but doesn't play along nicley with FC.
