Installing Intel 2200BG Wireless Drivers
I am running the latest version of Slax off of my thumbdrive so I can boot it off of my laptop. The wifi doesn't work and I know I need to install the drivers for my wireless card (Intel Pro/Set 2200BG). I downloaded ieee80211-1.2.15, intel_ipw2200_120, and ipw2200-fw-3.0. There were all in .tgz files so I used 7zip (like winzip) to extract the .tar files and then the folders. So I have all of the files extracted out off the archives. The only problem is I have no idea how to install them. I looked at the Intel documentation but it is confusing because it keeps referencing other documents and all this stuff.
I know this is a drivers issue because it works fine on my desktop with a Linksys PCI card. I was wondering if someone can walk me through this? Thanks. |
I'm having the same problem, but I'm running Fedora 6, Zod. I know that if you compile a kernel later than 2.6.15 you can choose to have drivers that support the 2200 Wireless Card, but I don't really want to go through all of that. I'm a newbie and would rather just copy the right files to the the right place. Does anyone have a any particular help for us?

If you look in the folder from the ipw2200_120 extraction, there are some very detailed installation instructions in the INSTALL file. If you're lucky and your kernel is already properly configures (pretty likely if your using a stock kernel) running make and make install (you have to be root for make install) should do the trick. You'll then need to install the firmware files to /lib/firmware. Again, have a look at the INSTALL file for detailed instructions.
