Installing HP1018 printer on FC9

I am trying to install an HP laserjet printer on FC9. When I type hp-setup in a terminal it starts to do the install and I press Enter for USB port selection, then it returns an error 'ImportError: No module named installer'.

The printer is listed in CUPS but when I try to print a test page I get the error "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed".

Any help with this will be much appreciated.

Hi there,

Have you tried setting your printer from the
Code:
system-cfong-printer
Maybe you can see what's going on from there.

Cheers

Hi

Thanks for your response. Yes, I have looked system-config-printer and it is listed and all looks fine but when I do a test print I get the error 'Print failed - there is a problem with your printer'.

Have you tried installing the printer using the CUPS web interface tool? (enter "localhost:631" in a browser)
What driver does it chose for the printer?
Do you have HPLIP installed?

Yes, used CUPS installed HPLIP. In CUPS the chosen driver is HP Laserjet 1015 Foomatic/hpijs.

Using the web interface, delete the printer and then start over with the installation. In the dialog for "device", does it show your specific printer on USB? This is how my printer shows up in that dialog:

Quote:
HP LaserJet 2200 USB#1 (HP LaserJet 2200)
Also:
Is the printer connected using USB-II? (Some?)HP laser printers apparently do not work with USB-I.
Try installing the Gutenprint drivers---you distro should have a package for this.

Many thanks for your help. That fixed it! In CUPS web interface I removed the printer and reinstalled it and then ran a test page and it worked. When I go to the Windows PC's on the network the printer is available (As I configured it to share through Samba) but when I install the HP laserjet 1018 drivers and try to print nothing happens. Not sure if this is the right place to ask about Windows printing through the FC9 server? but if you have any ideas or experience I would appreciate the help.
