Installing Flash Player

Can someone help me to correctly install this Flash Player.
I downloaded it, and it said to install from Command line. Do they me "Terminal" or somewhere else? The only instructions they gave was to type the following from command line..
./flashplayer-installer But nothing happens?? I'm really new to installing . Thanks

Hello,

So, you need to open a terminal and log as root. Then go to directory where flashplayer installer is. Check that it has executables rights. then run it and follow the instructions...

Thats the part I don't understand...How do I get to the directory from terminal? I know where it is, and when I try and go there from terminal, It say this is a directory, and then nothing...I must be typing something wrong. What is the correct way..Thanks

http://www.icon.co.za/~psheer/book/index.html.gz

cd /path/to/directory

or

cd directory --if allready in the parent directory

pwd --print working directory

ls -l -- list of files in directory

when you open a terminal, you are in your /home directory...type ls and it will list all the things in your /home directory, and you should see the flashplayer tar.gz file there.

you have to untar the flashplayer...so type tar -xzvf flash_player_7_blah blah and it will untar and create a directory called flash_player_7blah blah...

cd into that by typing: cd flash_player_7blah blah...

then type: ./flashplayer-installer or whatever the command is...and it will give you a bunch of questions to answer as it installs...

sorry about the blah blah part..i don't remember the whole name...

*edit

oh yeah!!! definately check out Franklins link to Rute..an excellent book on how it all works...

Where did you get the flash player at? I didnt know there was one for linux. Perhaps if I get the same one you have and I figure out how to install it I could help you as well.

Thanks,
JS

Okay I got it to install...

Here is what I did.

Unzipped the package to the /usr folder.

Opened terminal.

went to the /usr folder by typing
Code:

cd /usr
started install by typing
Code:

./flashplayer-installer
Pressed enter then it asked where I wanted the installation to go with an example of /usr/lib/mozilla I typed...
Code:

lib/mozilla-1.6
Then it installed it. Let me know how that works for you.
