Installing Fedora 8

I have installed Fedora 8 on a 2004 Dell Inspirion 1100. The installtion seems to complete and got the login screen. I cannot get logged in. No where in the install did it ask for a login name only devise name and password and confimation. What am I not getting?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm really new also so this is just a suggestion

The administrator for fedora is root. So try the username root and the password you gave it during installation.

Just a guess but I know I can log in as root and the password it asked for.

Jories - The "root" login name worked and the password worked ans well, except it does not launch Fedora. I get a prompt [root@name ~]# any idea where I go from here?

Use the 'useradd' command to add a new user. Then, you can logout and log back in as the newly created user.

If you got a prompt, it means Fedora is running. Try entering "startx" (w/o the quotes). If that doesn't work, then create a new user by entering:
useradd -p password username (Substitute your choices for "password" and "username"

Then, re-boot and login with the new name.

If startx does work, you'll be in the GUI as root, which is not good. Create a new user, then ctrl-alt-backspace to re-start the X server. Then log in with the new username.
