Installing .exe files on linux
 

Just out of curiousity is it possible to install .exe extentions on linux? If so can you explain how to do it and if there is any kind of program i might wanna look into. Thanks

.exe will not run natively on Linux.

There is an implementation of the Windows API structure called 'wine' (a recursvie acronym for 'WINE IS NOT an EMULATOR).

It's a basic enough program but it's all command line configuration. There are commercial products base on wine such as CodeWeaver's CrossOver Office which is an excellent graphical interface for installing a ton of windows apps, such as Microsoft Office, Macromedia products, etc..

There is also a program called 'Cedega' for games, which implements a DirectX layer to allow you to play such games...

However if you're going for games, I've read on the Wine mailing list that with some of their new developments, standard Wine has been outperforming Cedega in almost all the games they've tested. Read some of the archives and you might find a patch with what they've been working on.

the wine vs. cedega thing can be very much hit or miss, some games work with one, both or neither, and, for the most part, you'll have to deal with it.

but remember, wine is free.
