Have you tried connecting and adding your printer it may be recognised? Linux doesn't work like Windows in that most drivers are contained within the kernel, you don't load drivers off a CD. (If some of that last statement is Tosh, someone correct me!
Linux uses a system called CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) to control printing. You haven't told us the model No of the Brother printer which would be helpfull.
