I tried the xvf and that basically extracts the contents of the package. I then navigated to the lib folder which was created, and executed the command: b43-fwcutter wlc_hybrid.o_shipped

I then get the following message:

Sorry, the input file is either wrong or not supported by b43-cutter
The file has an unknown MD5sum 2576b8a10b2fd52d29760e11f04bf4e3

I assume, based on my readings, that the wlc_hybrid.o_shipped is the driver file I am looking for, no?

Thanks. I will give that a shot. As I stated, I am new to this, and I am fooling around with various installations. Last night, I installed Ubuntu Gnome on the Netbook, just to see what would happen. (Originally, I had installed Fedora 22 workstation, with Gnome but it would never make it to the desktop. That, however is a separate issue.) The Ubuntu install, recognized the card, and was able to connect to the network right away. Not giving up on the LXDE, I installed it on a R51 Thinkpad which I had stored away. The OS is actually quite nice on that particular machine. Long story short, I now have a totally different wireless issue using LXDE on the Thinkpad, but at least the Ethernet port works and I can access the internet from it.
