Installing bits & pieces

Hello people,

Have managed to install SuSE 9.3 Pro onto my laptop (HP NX9005) with great success.

I completed my first task of tracking down a problem with my PCMCIA controller but am now onto my second problem which I hope you'll be able to help me with.

Basically I've downloaded the powertweak.tgz file and haven't a clue what to do next. Have unpacked it and it has created a directory with all the powertweak files in it but I haven't a clue how to actually install it!

Please show me the way!!!!!

Many thanks

Try looking into extracted folder and try to find some text file named like readme.txt readme.1st etc. Usually the package contains these files for reference and instruction etc. regarding package.

Or try to locate an shell script named like install.sh etc.

Ps.: BTW from where do you downloaded powertweak the name of file is giving a impression that it is relating to Window OS - just a guess. I saw a few packages named like this which does some extra tuning to win systems.

The 'Powertweak' file was called: Powertweak-0.99.5.tgz which was obtained from Linux.org.

Hope this helps!

You might check out Compiling Programs from Source. Maybe that will answer some of your questions.

Hi guys & gals!

Well what an experience this is turning out to be!

Basically, I managed to do the ./configure bit and was then given an error about my libxml not being up to date. So I trotted of onto the internet, downloaded an up to date libxml file and installed it.

Now when I run ./configure all seems well with the libxml stuff but instead I've been given another what looks like monster error of which I'll post on here later and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
